New from the studio vintage clock face ornaments

Hi guys! Now my weekend show is done, I am back in the studio. I wanted to share The vintage flower globe that I upcycled. These are faux succulents..man those little suckers are expensive! The deer is from my grandson's "left behinds". There has been a bottom drawer in my kitchen that has been designated "the Pla-doh drawer" for 25 years or more. With Hunter moving there was nobody playing Pla-doh anymore. I asked his momma if she wanted the contents and she said no. I sorted and tossed some things...then bagged the "good stuff" back up and put it back in the drawer! I just could not throw it away! When I re-do the kitchen I will take it up to the thrift store to donate. Sometimes I think kids growing up is hardest on the moms!

He looks pretty cute in there!

I was working on clock face ornaments and wanted something different for the focal in the center. I had used vintage buttons, brass and mother of pearl, but my supply was dwindling and I had 60+ ornaments to finish! I had these cardboard bingo markers laying around. I decided to add German glass glitter and I like how they turned out! I used the "grey" side up so if it peeked through it would blend with the glitter.

                                                           They worked out well!

The backs are French text from a vintage French book I got at the show this weekend.

The fronts are color copies of vintage and antique clock faces I have collected over the years.

The stains and wear are part of the original clock faces.

The hands are part of the photo.

The centers are smaller clock faces and the glittered bingo marker. The edges are glittered too..my studio floor is quite the glitterpalooza! Lots to list and do this weekend and my last baby will be turning into an official teenager..yikes! Hope you have a great weekend! Comments loved, followers adored! Til next time! Julia

The Gathering Show Knoxville

Hi guys! Pics from a show I did this weekend. The Gathering Show in Knoxville. Not scads of traffic, but pretty motivated buyers. I. Am. BEAT! I am apparently so out of shape as my thighs feel like I have been running stadium stairs!. 15 loads of inventory and fixtures downloaded from the trailer and Explorer, hauled in, and set up.

The background looks a bit sparse here as my neighbors hadn't set up yet.

The sticks are vintage carnival or circus canes. They would have had a toy rubber banded to the top and sold by the souvenir guy at the circus. I always wanted one of those toys but I don't remember my dad ever caving. We did get cotton candy and snow cones though. Maybe it was because there were 5 of us kids then? I remember he thought they were ridiculously over priced. LOL

This display is a 4 foot ladder I painted white with boards pushed through the steps. As I don't attach the boards, this is best for lightweight items. These are some of my handmade bottlebrush trees, a vintage baby dress and some antique and vintage mirrors. This wasn't a good mirror show. I had them priced $20-$25 and no go. Last time I sold almost every one I brought! You never know.

A vintage dictaphone and some shabby shutters. We sold a lot of the shutters.

The tutu and the antique blanket chest went too. I love great shows, because if the other sellers are having a good day, they are more willing to come buy from me too! Interior customers! I did sell to  a few other dealers. I bought a pile of vintage mixed media goodies..French paper ephemera, dresdens, letters, vintage crepe paper and I am not even sure what all.  The dealer was blowing it out at great prices and then she went 50% off that on Saturday. I need to dig through my boxes tonight and see what all I got..probably while doing a Golum from Lord of the Rings impersonation "..Preciousssss ..my preciousssss.." LOL.

All the wire milk crates but one sold. The cool shabby medicine cabinets didn't, but they will! Aqua mason jars seem to be slowing down. I sell mine with original zinc lids for $8. Harvest tables..grrr..if you don't have them people ask for them, if you have them, they sit. One of my October shows is better for country furniture..The Clinch River Festival in Clinton, TN on October  10th. (near Knoxville) That is an outdoor show with tons of customers.

These pediments sold as did the potting bench the dolls were sitting on (picked up after the show thank goodness!)It is a great display piece and if I still had  store I'd have kept it. Too big to drag to shows for me though as I usually have to set up alone...do-able, but a pain in the keister.

I sold a lot of vintage dolls. The cloth body ones seemed most popular. I like those too. They look good even undressed.

People seemed to be in 2 camps about the dolls..either Oooh! Or Eek..creepy! OK by me though..creepy sells! Those alabaster lamps are about ready to stay at my house!

We do have a few new metal items such as the letters here.

I sold a few doll heads too and while I was at the sale, sold a bunch of them in my Etsy shop..yay!

This mid century child's chair was $15 and didn't sell. I don't think Knoxville is big on Mid Century. It is still a strong primitive market.

All those enameled trays on top of that chair sold (Wish I would have kept one!). Farmhouse and industrial cottage are my "look" I guess.

All my vintage metal trike seats sold before the sale even started to another dealer. I like that Flora Danica crate (Flowers of Denmark) I think it is a flower bulb crate. There are Flora Danica dishes, but I doubt they crated them like that. This display is 2 6 foot step ladders. I added 2 shutters. I used to have boards that fit this 12" wide but Ed  stole them to use as shelving in his shed! So I improvised. The metal stars are new.

Bed springs and more metal..galvanized, rusted, painted enameled..it's all good! Those are old enameled appliance legs. They'd make great coffee table legs!

The wire baskets are new too. All those shutters went.

The suitcase had vintage pillowcase sets and a few embroidered bits. Suitcases make things easy to haul in and out.

More metal. Those Hollywood Regency mirrors sell well on Ebay, I just hate to ship mirrors. $20-$25 here which is less than EBay and no shipping. I have a bit more "girly" show coming up they may sell at.

The butter molds and potato mashers sold as did bread boards, the little bench under the bread pans and the bread pans, and vintage clocks (non working but cute) Those little boxes on the right hold vintage wallpaper border rolls. They will probably end up on Etsy. So overall a good show. Onto the next! My week will be filled with listing more doll heads in my Etsy shop and vintage items we are listing for friends on EBay (they pay me a commission on what sells)and my own stuff on Ebay and Etsy..and working on handmade items..No rest for the wicked! Hope you had a great weekend! Comments loved, followers adored. Stop back and see what I am up to! "Til next time! Julia

Vintage finds from this weekend

Hi guys! Today I am sharing some of the things we found "hunting" this weekend. Above is an antique or vintage cast iron Bonsai (tree) planter or tray. I love its rusty look and Asian motifs. It would be fab for succulents or a fairy garden or just to corral your "bits".

I bought this box for the vintage tin film canisters..but the old flashbulbs were an extra plus! People use the film canisters for mixed media and assemblage art.I like the cheery colors they come in! So odd to be taking pics of these things with my phone! I apologize for some of these pics..a bit fuzzy. I need to learn to focus them!

Cute vintage clocks. A Big Ben and a smaller German one. They are over wound but still cute for decor.

A metal floral toleware bit and a chandelier bobeche..I use these in some of my mixed media ornaments.

an old brass toast rack..so fancy! My toast goes straight from toaster to my mouth! (and I share the crusts with the pooches..if they think I am not eating fast enough they start barking!)

A pair of Wilson sunglasses and case. Probably 40's -50's. I have to research these a bit.

Not sure what this was other than cool. I'm guessing an ashtray? That is a C or a G on it..Griswold? More research to do.

I like the old felt pennants. This one is from Baylor high school in Chattanooga.

2 Ohio Art toy drums. They have a couple dents but good tops/bottoms. Cute graphics!

I always buy these old slips if they are reasonable. This one is organdy. Cool to wear or upcycle into a lampshade!

I cannot pass up a Vera Neumann scarf! Vera's are my fav and I have a drawer full.

I liked this Echo one too. I think these would be great framed. I saw some fab curtains and shower curtains made with them too. I think 3 would look great over a bed. If I ever quit wearing them!

A hatbox marked Fleur de Paris New Orleans. Some damage to the rim under the lid and someone added a piece of tape across the top. Still cute for decor.

I like old wooden bread boards. They have a fab patina and a few make a great wall display. I also always buy these globe vases.I am going to add faux succulents. I have grown real moss in them before too!

A couple toleware trays (that need a clean up) another globe vase and an ornate brass framed dresser mirror.

You could hang it too..great handles and a wonderful slightly shabby mirror.

An old tin candy box, some pin style floral frogs, Deco shoe clips, 2 French perfume bottles..

and one filigreed one that was off a necklace or chatelaine. It is a glass bottle under the filigree.  The top screws off and it has a tiny glass applicator wand. This maybe brass or gold plated..need to research.

Some supplies for the studio. The box and tray are backgrounds for  mixed media pieces.

3 tiny bottles to fill with glitter and turn into pendant necklaces (they were pill sample bottles I think) and a bit of rhinestone bling that may have been part of a collar.

Vintage scissors are also a cool collectible. They come in many sizes..these are quite large! They make a great wall display especially in  sewing room, craft room or laundry. ..or to add a touch of industrial chic "sculpture" anywhere!

I like to take a utilitarian photo and play with it in Picasa!

Ed got this old 30's -40's baseball catcher's mitt and mask. He used to be a baseball catcher whe we were first dating and married.

He got these great old iron bed legs..fab for an industrial upcycled coffee table..perfect height! he went down to the basement/garage/ out back for this sale and I went upstairs and inside. He missed out on a bunch of old McCoy pots though. He said the first 2 ladies in line just grabbed and piled..oh well..don't blame them! After I was done inside I went downstairs to see what goodies he missed. I was poking around on a shelving rack on the patio only to hear someone a minute later yell "Snake!" There was a copperhead curled up in a saw/miterbox inches from where I had been looking! Yikes. This was at least 20 minutes into the sale so there had been plenty others digging about on that rack also! He was released into the woods behind the house! A few months ago it was a grenade..estate sales are not for sissies! LOL

He presented me with these because "I know how you are about these things". LOL..he is right. ..such a romantic! I like old baseballs softballs and croquet balls to pile in a bowl and I collect old whisk brooms until I have several (and then usually sell them!) Hope you had a great weekend too! Comments loved, followers adored! I am getting ready for a show this weekend. I shall take pix. Stop back! Til then, Julia
